This residence, located in Historic Downtown Wilmington, NC, follows a modern gothic farmhouse style and abides by the Historic Preservation Society of Downtown Wilmington’s standards. While at Dogwood Architecture I focused strictly on the renderings for this project to provide the HP Society with a general understanding of the home. This modern take on a classic style fits into the historic neighborhood perfectly, borrowing features from surrounding buildings on the block.

The ground floor is a polished concrete slab that runs the full length of the structure, complemented by a slate exterior patio area that contains a pool, lounge area, and a pool house. The clients – a couple from New York – were looking to create a private exterior area where they felt a bit more removed from the hustle-and-bustle of the downtown area. In an attempt to do so, they asked that we create a bamboo façade  separating the rear lounge and pool area from the neighboring property, and to also install a waterfall to create some white noise to reduce the sound of nearby traffic.
